Nexos Group to deliver energy resilience project for Ascension Island power network

Nexos Group, a leading provider of consulting, engineering and integrated delivery services, has been awarded a first-of-its-kind project to support a more resilient, lower-carbon power system on one of the world’s most remote islands. Working with Encompass, the client responsible for operating and maintaining Ascension Island’s power station and utilities on behalf of the BBC World Service, Nexos Group will help deliver a robust solution designed for one of the most remote and operationally challenging environments in the South Atlantic.

As a British Overseas Territory, Ascension Island presents a unique engineering challenge. Its remoteness, critical infrastructure requirements and unusual operating environment demand solutions that are resilient, practical and built to perform reliably over the long term. The project is intended to support electricity users across the island while strengthening the infrastructure that underpins essential services, including the BBC Atlantic Relay Station, which helps connect audiences across Africa and beyond.

Dan McAteer, CEO of Nexos Group, said: “This is a strategically important project for Nexos Group. It demonstrates the strength of our business and our ability to bring specialist engineering, infrastructure and power expertise to complex environments where resilient, dependable delivery matters most.

“As Nexos Group continues to grow its presence and expertise across the UK, this project reflects our commitment to supporting the energy, infrastructure and power sectors with the specialist skills they need, where they need them most. We see projects like this as an important opportunity to build on our capabilities, strengthen collaboration with valued partners and position ourselves strongly to support the opportunities emerging now and in the years ahead.”

By increasing the penetration of renewable energy through advanced battery and energy management systems, the project is expected to improve overall system efficiency, enhance energy security and reduce diesel usage by 42% per year.  Ultimately supporting the BBC and Encompass in progressing their emissions reduction ambitions, while providing a robust platform for future sustainability improvements on the island.
