Powering Confidence: How nexos' Electrical Engineering Expertise Enables Safer, Smarter Energy Projects

In an era where performance, safety, and decarbonisation are more critical than ever, the role of electrical engineering has never been more vital. At nexos, our electrical engineering team doesn't just design systems, we engineer confidence into every connection, panel, and power source across offshore and onshore projects.

Meet the Leader Behind the Charge

Kevin Slinger, our Head of Electrical Engineering, brings decades of experience and a laser-sharp focus on delivering reliable, high-performance power systems. Under his leadership, nexos has developed a comprehensive suite of capabilities that extend far beyond traditional electrical design.

"In today’s high-performance energy landscape, precision in electrical engineering is non-negotiable. At Nexos, we use tools like ETAP to ensure our power system studies don’t just meet industry standards, they optimise safety, reliability, and performance from day one." – Kevin Slinger

Electrical Power System Studies with ETAP

From load flow analysis to short circuit calculations, nexos uses the advanced Electrical Transient Analysis Program (ETAP) software to simulate, validate, and optimise complex power systems. Our engineers apply ETAP across:

  • Load flow and voltage drop analysis
  • Short circuit and protection coordination studies
  • Arc flash risk assessments
  • Harmonics and transient stability analysis

The result? Systems that are robust, efficient, and compliant - ready to perform under the toughest operational conditions.

SAFOPS and Electrical Functional Safety

Electrical Functional Safety is at the heart of every nexos project. We incorporate Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and implement rigorous SAFOPS (Safe Operations) principles to ensure our designs meet IEC 61508/61511 standards. Our engineers:

  • Design for fail-safe operation
  • Analyse safety integrity levels (SIL)
  • Develop and validate control narratives and cause & effect matrices

This focus ensures every electrical system contributes to safe and predictable operations.

Arc Flash and Earthing: Engineering for the Unexpected

Arc flash events and improper earthing are among the highest risks in any electrical system. At Nexos, we proactively manage these risks with:

  • Comprehensive arc flash modelling to protect personnel and assets
  • Earthing and bonding designs to ensure equipotential integrity
  • Mitigation measures including protection relay settings, PPE specifications, and labelling

Our approach goes beyond compliance; it creates environments where people can work with confidence.

A Complete In-House Offering

One of nexos’ key differentiators is our ability to deliver end-to-end, in-house EPC solutions. From concept design and power system modelling through to fabrication, installation, and commissioning, our electrical engineering capability integrates seamlessly with our modular and construction teams. That means fewer interfaces, tighter quality control, and faster execution.

Whether it's powering a topsides module, integrating a local equipment room, or connecting a hydrogen plant to the grid, Nexos is helping energy clients engineer their future—electrically and intelligently.
