Modularisation Key to Future-Proofing the Evolving Energy Landscape
Demand for E-houses On the Rise
As the global energy sector faces unprecedented pressure to decarbonise, digitise, and deliver faster than ever before, nexos believes the industry’s success will hinge on embracing smarter delivery models, particularly modularised solutions.
Whether supporting power resilience in remote offshore platforms or integrating complex electrical systems into new low-carbon onshore plants, modular execution is fast becoming the gold standard. At nexos, we’re seeing this shift first-hand across our work with clients in oil and gas, synthetic fuels, hydrogen, and grid stability.
“Traditional stick-built construction models are struggling to keep pace with today’s project demands,” says Katherine Milne, Head of Customer Relations & Communications at nexos. “Space constraints, safety requirements, labour shortages, and tighter timelines are pushing operators to think differently. Modularisation answers all of that and more.”
One area where this demand is particularly evident is in electrical houses (e-houses) and Localised Equipment Rooms (LERs). These prefabricated, pre-tested modules are purpose-built to house HV/LV switchgear, control systems, and critical automation infrastructure enabling faster site integration, enhanced safety, and improved quality control.
"What sets nexos apart? Unlike many EPC providers, we deliver the entire modular lifecycle in-house from design and engineering to fabrication, fit-out, logistics, installation, and commissioning. That means one team, one point of accountability, and seamless quality control from concept to completion," continued Ms Milne.
Recent projects include:
Synthetic aviation fuel facilities, where modular e-houses enabled aggressive timelines and tight plot layouts.
Onshore processing plants, where ageing infrastructure required rapid deployment of modern control rooms.
Offshore electrical upgrades, where modular solutions ensured minimal disruption to ongoing production.
Every nexos modular build is designed with inherently safer design (ISD), human factors engineering (HFE), and Zone 2 ATEX compliance in mind ready to withstand the harshest environments and most complex operating demands.
“Our end-to-end approach ensures that every module is tailored, tested, and built to perform,” says Ms Milne. “We’re not just delivering boxes we’re delivering the backbone of future-ready energy infrastructure.”
As the energy transition accelerates, nexos remains committed to innovation, performance, and practical progress—and we believe modular will be the standard by which the industry measures project excellence.
