Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2026 - Our nexos apprentices
Meet the makers of tomorrow
At nexos, our apprentices are at the heart of our continued growth and success. Their dedication, curiosity, and drive to develop real, industry ready skills are what make our apprenticeship programmes so impactful.
As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, we are proud to shine a light on some of the talented individuals who are learning, growing, and building their futures with us.
Across disciplines - from Electrical and HVAC to Pipefitting, Welding, and more - our apprentices share a common thread: a passion for hands on learning, a willingness to take on new challenges, and a commitment to shaping their careers through practical experience. Their stories highlight what makes apprenticeships so valuable: the blend of on the job training, college learning, and the support of a team invested in their success.
In this spotlight article, our apprentices share their proudest moments, the skills they are building, and the advice they would offer to anyone considering the same path. Their journeys reflect not only their individual achievements, but also the strength of the nexos culture - one that champions development, curiosity, and continuous learning.
Connor Bonas – Fabrication Apprentice Welder
"I’m now in my third year of my welding apprenticeship, and what drew me in from the start was how satisfying the job looked — I was always watching videos of the trade and knew it was something I wanted to do.
"Getting qualified to weld real jobs for clients has been one of my proudest moments so far. The team at Nexos has been brilliant, always taking the time to show me new techniques and little tricks that help me get better every day.
"Once I finish my apprenticeship, I want to keep building my skills and hopefully mentor the younger generation coming through.
"My biggest piece of advice is to never be scared to ask a question — it’s always better to understand than assume."Lyall Watson – Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Apprentice
"I’m coming up to a year into my air-conditioning and refrigeration apprenticeship, and what pulled me in still drives me today – hands on work, problem-solving, and getting to understand how complex HVAC systems really operate.
"My favourite moments have been learning how different systems work out on real jobs, with the engineers around me constantly pushing me, teaching me, and giving me the confidence to take on more. Nexos has played a huge part in that.
"I see myself taking this career offshore once I’m qualified, and if I had one piece of advice for anyone thinking about an apprenticeship, it’s simple: always say yes. That mindset has opened every door for me so far."Daniel Cumming – Electrical Apprentice
"As an Electrical SVQ3 apprentice nearly at the finish line, I have always been drawn to hands on work and knew this industry and eventually going offshore was where I wanted to be.
"One of my proudest moments was completing my first module on my own. Nexos has played a big part in my development, with colleagues and my boss always taking the time to support me.
"Once I complete my apprenticeship, I hope to take my skills offshore to develop my knowledge and experience even further.
"My advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship would be: do it. The balance between work and college is brilliant - you get practical experience and study side by side."McKenzie Finnie – HVAC Apprentice
"I’m currently completing my HVAC apprenticeship with Nexos. I’m due to finish college in June 2027, and I’m really enjoying the journey so far.
"I was first drawn to the industry after two friends spoke highly about their own experiences, and it didn’t take long for me to see why.
"One of my proudest moments to date has been completing a cabin in the workshop on my own for the first time - it was a real confidence boost.
"Nexos has supported my growth by giving me access to one of the best colleges in the country, helping me build strong knowledge and develop my skills. The team has been brilliant too - every engineer I’ve worked with has played a part in helping me progress.
"After completing my apprenticeship, I see myself becoming a top engineer and contributing to the team.
"For anyone leaving school, I think an apprenticeship is a great way to move forward. It gives you a really good mix between learning at college and getting hands-on experience on the tools."Jake Pert – Apprentice Pipefitter
"I started my apprenticeship with Nexos last August after a family friend spoke highly of the company. From the moment I walked into my interview, I knew it was the job for me.
"One of my favourite moments so far has been helping the pipefitters with prep work - it was interesting, enjoyable, and reminded me exactly why I chose this path.
"The combination of on-the-job training, college learning, and support from the team has helped me grow. I’m excited to continue my journey here and become a fully qualified pipefitter.
"I’d recommend apprenticeships to anyone wanting to learn and build real skills."
