Kraken FPSO HVAC
Background
Nexos was responsible for the installation of new welfare facilities on the Bumi Armada Kraken FPSO, which included the integration of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) throughout the newly designated areas.
Space in the existing accommodation and welfare areas was limited, but our engineering team demonstrated innovation by utilizing the previously unused space in the steering gear area for the new welfare facilities.
Given the accessibility challenges in the steering gear area and restrictions on hot work, the HVAC system was designed in modular sections, allowing it to be lowered into place within the steering gear area.
Scope overview
The project involved the installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to ensure reliable temperature control for the new welfare facilities. Key elements of the design included:
- Advanced manufacturing techniques that allowed for assembly in sections on-site without the need for hot work
- Pre-testing of components onshore, followed by disassembly for easier offshore installation
- Advanced controls on the supply fan to facilitate efficiency and streamlined commissioning on-site
- Construction of new welfare facilities, including a landing pad for the HVAC system and roof penetration for ductwork leading to the new office spaces
- The project is now complete, and the client has provided positive feedback regarding the HVAC system’s reliability and the thoughtful engineering approach that ensures ease of servicing
